You don’t need to have a passion for aviation to appreciate what the Western Warbirds Association brings to town, according to WWA vice-president Paul Dumoret. The WWA is an organization of owners and pilots dedicated to preserving and exhibiting ex-military aircraft.  Their annual Warbird Fest Weekend was held in Oliver from September 6-8 and attracted approximately 20 pilots from British Columbia and Alberta. Dumoret said more were expected to come but were detained due to unfavourable flying conditions in the Lower Mainland. Though the event was closed to the public, one WWA member remarked that all residents can still benefit from the festival.

“When the members come in, a lot of them bring their families and they have to sleep and eat  somewhere. We book everyone into local accommodations and eat in town. And a lot of the wives go shopping and tour the wineries so it’s good for the town. We’re really happy to host this.”
