It’s too early to tell if a small grass fire north of Oliver this afternoon was suspicious in nature.
Firefighters were called to a small blaze on the side of Highway 97 across from Enterprise Way (Senkulmen Business Park) at approximately 1 p.m.
Bystanders were observed stomping on the fire just as trucks arrived. The hot spots were quickly extinguished by the crew of one truck.
The cause was not confirmed.
Fire department spokesman Rob Graham said the region is still quite dry despite recent weather and precipitation. Asked whether a cigarette could cause such a fire, he couldn’t say for sure, but he wouldn’t discount the possibility.
