The Town of Oliver has approved a grant-in-aid of $2,500 to the McKinney Ski Club.
The club originally requested $5,000 to help purchase a used trail grooming machine (for $40,000) because their existing 1972 Bombardier is ready for retirement.
The machine is used to clear the parking lot, groom and track-set the ski trails, as well as prepare the area for ski school.
The club has been offering a ski school program to local elementary students for more than a decade.
Town council agreed that $5,000 was a bit steep for its grant-in-aid budget, so it approved $2,500. It has also shared this motion with the regional district (Area C and A) in hopes they will contribute to the request.
