Singer-songwriter Shari Ulrich has had a big career, and now she’s bringing a few highlights of it to Osoyoos.

Along with her trio, the folk musician is performing the fourth and final show of the Osoyoos Concert Series at the Osoyoos Community Theatre on Feb. 28.

Joined by her daughter Julia and Kirby Barber, Ulrich will perform her own hits as well as covers, reimagined with beautiful harmonies.

Born in San Rafael, California, Shari first moved to Vancouver in the early 1970’s in response to the Vietnam War.

After stints of backpacking and cycling around Canada and the US (always with a guitar on her back or a flute in her pack), her search for her place and path in the world included performing with her older brother and sister with the San Francisco Free Theatre, finally revealing that music was it.

In all, Ulrich has released 23 albums – as a solo artist and as part of various “supergroups” – which have garnered her two Juno Awards, several Juno nominations, an induction into the British Columbia Entertainment Hall of Fame and a 2014 CFMA for songwriter of the year.

She first hit the stage with the Pied Pumkin String Ensemble and went on to perform with fellow Canadian musician Valdy as part of his backing group, the Hometown Band.

After the Hometown Band dissolved in 1978, Ulrich embarked on a solo songwriting career, releasing eight albums.

1989 marked the start of her collaboration with long-time friends Bill Henderson and Roy Forbes to form UHF, the much praised acoustic/vocal trio with whom she continues to record and perform.

Throughout it all Shari raised a daughter, Julia Graff, along with former husband, songwriter and visual artist David Graff.

Julia, now 28 and herself an increasingly accomplished multi-instrumentalist, has joined her mother on stage on violin, guitar, piano, accordion, mandolin and vocals since she was 12, and engineered and co-produced Shari’s last three projects.

Now the Shari Ulrich Trio is performing at the Osoyoos Community Theatre on Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $23 in advance, $25 at the door and $15 for students. Tickets are on sale at Mills Office Productivity in Osoyoos and Sundance Video in Oliver.
