Since being named head coach of the Osoyoos Coyotes in April, Dean Maynard has repeated his keys for players on his team in the upcoming season: respect and a good attitude.

It makes sense that the Coyotes will have a keen eye out for those qualities heading into their fall camp from Aug. 30 to Sept. 1.

Maynard, in his role as assistant coach last year, said the team was “out of hand,” when it came to those qualities.

“Especially with younger players. We didn’t have that many leaders on the team to help these young players. They could basically do whatever they wanted,” Maynard said. “I brought in a couple of veteran players that played at a higher level. They are going to be my leaders.”

Evan Della-Paolera, 20, is one of those veteran leaders. In 15 KIJHL games he has brought in nine goals and 17 points, on top of one goal and seven points in 39 games with the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Maynard called the six-foot-five Osoyoos product “a force to be reckoned with for sure within the KIJHL.”

With inspired rookies and veteran leadership, Maynard is hoping the team will make a “huge impact this year.”

The Osoyoos Coyotes main camp takes place Aug. 30 to Sept. 1 at the Osoyoos Sun Bowl Arena.
