A single motor vehicle accident at the corner of 74th Street and 89th Avenue in Osoyoos on Saturday afternoon left residents of a house shocked and the driver and passenger of the car with minor injuries.
The accident occurred just after 2 p.m. after a car driving northbound on 89th Ave. swerved to avoid a car that was proceeding west on 74th St. after stopping at the stop sign. The northbound car swerved left, and mounted a small hillock before crashing through the lower portion of a second-story deck and side of the house.

The driver of the northbound car told the Times Chronicle that he was moving into the intersection after stopping at the stop sign when a car appeared quickly to his left and swerved to avoid him, before crashing through the deck and side of the house. The car’s windshield was smashed and airbags deployed amongst other damage.
The young female driver and a younger male passenger sustained visible minor injuries to their legs but appeared not to have sustained any serious injuries.
Homeowners Cindy Marshall and her husband were stunned by the noise of the collision, as was their son who was in his basement bedroom when the collision took place.

“It was pretty loud we thought something had fallen out of somewhere. My son who was in the bedroom right there, if it hadn’t been for the deck, it would have been straight into his bedroom, so he was lucky,” she said.
Neighbouring residents commented on the fact this intersection is well-known to be dangerous, with many pointing to speeding on 89th St. and lack of proper observation of the stop signs on 74th Ave. as long-running problems.
Emergency services including Osoyoos Fire Rescue, Ambulance Service and RCMP attended the scene.
