A handicapped resident has expressed concern about the Town of Oliver removing a public water tap from the Tucelnuit pumphouse.

The resident, who didn’t want his name used, told the Chronicle that he relies on this tap for his domestic water use.
Director of Operations Shawn Goodsell said the Town hasn’t received any complaints about the tap being removed.

“We took it off because the Interior Health Authority’s environmental health officer requested this from us. There is too much potential of cross contamination at the well source . . . but the main reason is that the tap was not receiving the proper chlorination treatment and adds a possible health risk to people using that water.”

Goodsell said the other concern is vandalism of the tap.

In the past, some people have complained about the removal of public taps, but some of these people were not even customers of the Town, Goodsell said.

“People in system one that are not fully twinned yet could have a concern, but every other customer we have, if they have a domestic water service, should be fine.”
