The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) has renewed its Recreation Funding Agreement with the Town of Osoyoos covering Area “A” keeping the funding level flat.
The agreement ensures continued support for local services for residents both Town, and of Area “A”, who access the services on the same terms and conditions as Town residents.
The current agreement expired on December 31, 2025. A renewed agreement for a further five-year term covers the period from January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2030.
In presenting to Council, J. Zaffino, Chief Administrative Officer for the RDOS noted that the renewed agreement maintains the existing service delivery model, governance structure, reporting requirements, and responsibilities of both parties.
“The proposed renewal does not introduce new services, facilities, or funding methodologies. It ensures continuity of service delivery, administrative clarity, and long-term stability for both the RDOS and the Town of Osoyoos,” Zaffino said.
The annual contribution from the RDOS to the Town of Osoyoos will remain at the historical fixed amount of $70,000 per year for the duration of the five-year agreement term.
Sue McKortoff, RDOS Board member and Mayor of Osoyoos noted that in conversations with Town staff she observed that $70,000 for the last five and the next five years is “a good deal for Area ‘A’”.
Mark Pendergraft, RDOS Chair said his rationale for keeping the amount the same was the fact the RDOS contributes gas tax funds from Area “A” to the towns which they benefit from and things like funding for the arena in Oliver and other projects in both towns.
Council approved the new five year agreement.
