At two recent tournaments in Nelson and Salmon Arm, the Osoyoos Rattlers senior boys’ basketball team placed first and fifth, respectively.
The Nelson tournament on Jan. 7 was the more successful of the two with the Osoyoos Secondary School (OSS) boys winning all three games to take first place.
“The team played very well and I was really proud of their efforts and the outcome,” said Coach Casey Brouwer.
The Rattlers won games against Fernie, Mt. Sentinel and Nelson, all by decisive scores.
In Salmon Arm last weekend they were up against some tougher teams, some from larger schools. The Rattlers won two and lost two to finish fifth overall in the tournament.
They began well, beating Salmon Arm, an AAAA school 77-70.
Next they lost 84-59 to Kelowna Christian School, which is currently ranked third in the province for single A schools.
Another loss of 81-78 followed at the hands of Okanagan Mission, which is an AA school.
The Rattlers ended on a high note, defeating Aberdeen 100-79 in a Saturday afternoon game.
The Rattlers will be hosting a tournament on Jan. 27 and 28 and Brouwer said he hopes to see people from the community come out to support the team.
On Feb. 8 at 4:15 p.m. the Rattlers host rival Keremeos at OSS.
“We want a huge crowd there to cheer us on,” said Brouwer.
