The Osoyoos Desert Classic basketball tournament all came down to a final period of overtime, but it went the wrong way for Osoyoos.
The six-team tournament took place Friday and Saturday at Osoyoos Secondary School (OSS).
In a thrilling final championship game against the Kelowna Heritage Christian Saints, the Osoyoos Rattlers senior boys team managed to tie the score at 78-78 in the dying moments of the fourth quarter.
But after a five-minute overtime period, the final score was 93-78 for the visitors.
“Osoyoos seniors fought back from a 25-point deficit to tie the game in the final seconds,” said coach Casey Brouwer. “Unfortunately overtime did not go the way we hoped and Heritage took the game. I’m very proud of how the boys played all weekend.”
On Friday, the senior boys team started off with a 122-54 win over the Osoyoos junior team, which was filling in for another team that had backed out of the tournament.
On Saturday morning, the senior Rattlers scored a decisive 81-44 victory over Regent Christian Academy.
The final game late Saturday afternoon involved the only two undefeated teams.
The Osoyoos Rattlers senior boys team heads to Barriere this weekend for another tournament.
