The public will have a chance to put forward its opinion forward on a proposed cannabis production facility in Osoyoos.
Town council unanimously passed first and second readings to a bylaw amendment which would allow for an industrial cannabis operation at the regular open meeting on June 3.
The proposal now goes to public hearing on June 17 at 4:15 p.m.

The existing residential suite on second level of the property would be decommissioned due to Health Canada regulations.
Mayor Sue McKortoff inquired about the odour issues related to cannabis production.
Director of planning and development services Gina MacKay said industrial cannabis operations like this one “are required to comply with pretty stringent conditions” from federal and provincial regulators.

Coun. Myers Bennet noted some reports of odour in other communities with production facilities may not translate to the smaller operation being proposed in Osoyoos.
“I don’t think that’s going to be the same problem,” Bennet said.
