Dear Editor:
It is my responsibility as a citizen in a civil society to pay taxes to support a good public education system.
The provincial government of British Columbia and I have a social contract wherein I pay school taxes and they use these taxes to fund our public education system.
The provincial government has not honoured our social contract for some time.
A significant amount of school taxes are given to private schools.
I find if very offensive to hear that people in the Osoyoos area are stating that they want to create a private secondary school using, in part, public tax dollars.
If the people in this area want a private school, they should pay for it.
I want my tax dollars to fund a well-equipped, public secondary school which offers students the course selection they need to pursue their post secondary goals.
Thank you.
