Pro wrestling will come to the Sonora Community Centre March 30 bringing such characters as the six-foot-eight, masked Cremator Von Slasher.

A portion of proceeds from the event, performed by stars of Big West Wrestling, will go to the Osoyoos Splash Park and Spirit of the Game, a local organization that helps less-advantaged children get involved in organized sports.

“It’s not the Olympic wrestling, but it’s great entertainment, lots of fun,” said Casey Brouwer, community programmer with the Town of Osoyoos.

The event takes place in the gymnasium and doors open at 7 p.m. and bell time is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Sonora Community Centre, Watermark Beach Resort, Spirit Ridge Resort and online at SmartTickets.ca. They are also available for a few dollars more at the door.

“It’s a family oriented event and there should be some good excitement,” said Brouwer.

The event will see some single matches followed by tag team matches.

“The rumour has it that they’re going to do some kind of battle royal at the end of the night where they have all the wrestlers in the ring starting at the same time,” said Brouwer. “They’ve got to toss them over the top of the rope to eliminate them.”

Cremator Von Slasher will bring other members of the Von Slasher Clan to the battle. Riea Von Slasher, the Queen of Mean, will be on hand for the women’s action, along with Rigor Von Slasher. Others include Tony Baroni, “Mad Dog” Marty Sugar and Kat Von Heez.

Brouwer said he and his two young sons enjoy watching sports entertainment pro wrestling and when someone sent him a link to a Big West show in Kelowna, he decided to try to bring them to Osoyoos. He’s been in discussions over the past eight months.

“It should be a great night,” he said.
