The RCMP just don’t catch the bad guys, they save moose too.
That’s what one Keremeos RCMP officer did recently.
On November 7 at 6 p.m., Cst. Matthew Groen was called by the public to assist with a young moose that caught its leg in a barb wire fence on Highway 3A, north of Ollala.
Bystanders told the officer they believed the young moose’s mother was nearby. So Groen returned to the detachment to find bolt cutters to cut the wire.
He soon returned and was successful in freeing the moose from the fence. The moose was seen running back into the brush.
“These are the kinds of good news stories the public rarely hears about,” said Cst. James Grandy. “Officers working in remote detachments often have to use their ingenuity to problem solve unique situations on their own.”
