Cops not impressed by prank
The Oliver RCMP received a report of what the caller believed to be a man slumped over in a canoe in the middle of Tuc-el-Nuit Lake on July 31.
Police attended with the assistance of a local kayak enthusiast and were able to confirm that the canoe was occupied by a mannequin.
This effort was apparently part of an ongoing series of pranks between two summertime visitors to Oliver. The prankster advised his efforts were meant to be in good fun and not meant to attract police attention.
“Appropriate finger wags and admonishments were provided free of charge by the investigating member,” said Sgt. Ken Harrington.
Youth suspected of attempted theft
Oliver RCMP attended to the 400 block of Skagit Avenue recently for a theft from vehicle complaint.
The complainant was disturbed by the sound of someone trying to open the door on his trailer. He ran outside and saw two persons on foot near the end of the street.
“Ultimately, two Oliver youth and a 20-year-old associate were contacted, and although there is insufficient evidence to support charges against the three, it is likely that this is not the first nocturnal raid that they may have been involved in,” said Sgt. Ken Harrington.
