Fire victim’s name released
The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who died following a house fire in Osoyoos on January 17.
She was 52-year-old Deleyne Hunter from Osoyoos.
Hunter was injured in a fire at her residence on 92nd Avenue last Friday morning. She was transported to Vancouver General Hospital for specialized treatment, but succumbed to her injuries the next day. A male in the residence also suffered injuries.
Man charged for mail thefts
A coordinated effort between Keremeos and Penticton RCMP and the Oliver serious crime unit has resulted in criminal charges being laid against Mike Minchau of Keremeous. Minchau, 31, was arrested on January 13, after being observed stealing licence plates from another vehicle. He has been charged with 11 counts of fraud and property crime, stemming from numerous incidents in the Similkameen and the South Okanagan area in the past two months. Minchau has been released from custody on $4,000 bail and has to appear in court at the end of January.
Oliver man facing charges
A 29-year-old Oliver man is facing a number of criminal charges after refusing to pay his taxi cab fare in Lake Country.
On January 15 at 8:54 am, the Lake Country RCMP received a report of an unpaid taxi cab fare. The suspect was reportedly picked up in the Lake Country area, driven to a destination in Vernon and returned back to Lake Country where he fled the cab. The man left personal items and suspected stolen property behind in the vehicle.
The suspect later attended the Lake Country RCMP detachment in another taxi cab while in possession of additional suspected stolen property. The man faces several charges relating to fraud and stolen property.
