Daoust jailed for pipe bombing
A local man has been sentenced to 90 days in jail for his role in the pipe bomb and bear spray incident that rocked an Oliver neighbourhood this past summer.
The court heard how 19-year-old Stephan Wesley Daoust made the bomb (from black powder) that he placed on a vehicle in a laneway behind Earle Crescent on August 12. Nobody was injured in the incident, but the bomb damaged the vehicle and nearby garages.
It was reported that Daoust had a dispute with a young man who lived at the residence.
Not long after the pipe bomb incident, more intimidation came in the form of bear spray that Daoust used in the home.
Daoust’s older brother, Eric Daoust, still faces charges in the bombing incident.
The judge ordered Stephan to serve his sentence on weekends at the Oliver RCMP detachment, followed by two years of probation with a curfew.
Skateboarder, car collide
The Oliver RCMP received a report of a recent collision between a vehicle and a skateboarder on Gala Street next to the high school.
The driver reported that a group of male skateboarders came out of the exit lanes by the high school and one of them hit his car. The complainant stated some of the males swerved around his vehicle while one skateboarder hit his car, breaking the passenger side mirror.
The skateboarder got up and continued on his way. The driver managed to get the youth’s name before reporting the incident to police. No charges were laid.
