Oliver RCMP seized three firearms and ammunition after investigating a report of shots fired on top of Secrest Hill Road on Sunday.
Police responded to the call at Secrest Hill agricultural workers camp (formerly Loose Bay) at 7 a.m. on May 29. The report was delayed since the shots were allegedly fired between 3 and 4 a.m., according to Sgt. Don Wrigglesworth.
“A 29-year-old camper, who is a resident of Quebec, was reported to have fired off a rifle,” the commander said.
The male was arrested without incident for careless use of a firearm. Wrigglesworth said there were no injuries and no dispute was reported. He noted the male had a valid firearms possession licence.
The matter will be referred to the chief firearms officer for review and decision, said Wrigglesworth.
The accused was released from custody and escorted back to his campground to retrieve his belongings because he was evicted from the site.
