Three-vehicle collision closes road
A primary witness to last week’s mayhem in front of the Oliver post office wonders how anyone escaped serious injury or death.
Police and firefighters were called to a three-vehicle collision, which sent at least one person to hospital with undetermined injuries.
The Oliver RCMP did not issue a press release by Tuesday’s deadline, but eyewitness Bart Thomas saw everything. He noted that an eastbound Dodge pickup truck was travelling at a high rate of speed when it struck two other vehicles in front of the post office.
“I was dropping off mail and was crossing the street. He (driver of the Dodge pickup) missed my vehicle and my kids within feet . . . I don’t know how anybody wasn’t killed,” Thomas told the Chronicle.
It appeared the driver of the Dodge was taken to hospital, while another victim was treated at the scene. The cause is still under investigation.

Police investigate murders
The RCMP are investigating a double murder in Princeton and have charged one man in connection with the shootings on March 30.
Two charges of second degree murder and a charge of attempted murder were laid against a 49-year-old Princeton man. The accused made his first court appearance on April 2 in Penticton Provincial Court. His name was not released by press time Tuesday.
The charges relate to the murders of Robert (Keith) Wharton, 44, and Rosemary (Rose) Fox, 32, both of  Princeton. Their bodies were found in a building on Old Hedley Road. Police also found another Princeton male, age 48, who was seriously injured in the shooting.
