Two vehicles collide
On January 12 the Oliver RCMP received an “On-Star” report of a two-vehicle collision near Mt. Baldy ski hill. No injuries were reported, however, the two vehicles were damaged and required towing.
On arrival at a sharp bend in the road, approximately 34 kilometres up Camp McKinney Road, police located two pickup trucks, both with extensive front-end damage. The driver of the vehicle at fault confirmed that he was coming down the hill too fast, came around a corner, lost control and hit the second vehicle head on.
The charged driver of the 2008 GMC Sierra pickup and his passenger confirmed that they were uninjured but shaken. The driver of the second vehicle (2012 Ford F-150) advised that he had minor chest pain from his seatbelt and his skin was irritated from air bag deployment.
Road conditions at the time coupled with poor all-season tires, and failing to keep right were all considerations in this crash.
Man back behind bars
A 27-year old Oliver man was sent back to jail not long after being released from jail.
Shaun Aaron Stelkia was previously found guilty of unlawful confinement relating to an incident near Osoyoos on July 23, 2011. He was sent to jail but later released for time served.
But on December 20 police arrested Stelkia in Langley and charged him with break and enter at a residential home. The court heard that the complainant reportedly struck the accused with a hammer.
Stelkia was sent back to jail because he was on probation for the incident in 2011.
