A bizarre scene greeted motorists and Oliver firefighters yesterday on Highway 97 north of Oliver.

At  5 pm firemen responded to a call regarding a power pole on fire. Nothing strange about that, but the top of the pole was sheared off and held up (sideways) by the wires. A small fire smouldered where the pole was sheared.

A witness said that lightning was to blame.

There were no injuries or ground fire to report.

Firefighters monitored the scene until FortisBC arrived to fix the damage.
