The Rotary Club of Osoyoos has posthumously honoured one of its own with a Paul Harris award for outstanding contributions to the community and the organization.

Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary International just after the turn of the 20th century and the award was created to honour individuals that have donated, made contributions to the society which funds the Rotary foundation or undertaken notable service to the community.

Osoyoos Rotary member Vaughn Denis, who is deceased, was honoured with the award for his years of service to the community through Rotary. His wife Eve received the award on his behalf at a recent meeting at the Indian Flame restaurant.

Denis, a long-time Rotarian had many claims to fame, according to fellow Rotarians, but one that stands out was the running of various beer gardens particularly at the Osoyoos Coyotes hockey games. His wife was always there lending a hand and creating a fun atmosphere, said Rotarian Brian Rawlings.

“He was passionate about it because number one it was a chance for Rotary to be in the community and number two we were making some money which we put towards the sponsorship of free public ice skating,” he added.
