Allan Patton has decided not to seek re-election this fall as Area C director. His immediate plan is to continue farming.
Allan Patton says he won’t be running for Area C director in this fall’s election.
“I think three terms is a good length of time for me. I like the idea of turnover, but I know I’m going to miss it (the job).”
Patton told the Chronicle on Tuesday that’s he hanging up his regional district hat after nine years on the board. His immediate plan is to continue farming.
Patton said he’s hoping there will be some good competition for the directorship this fall. He noted that his alternate (Bill Eggert) informed him that he didn’t have the time commitment to tackle the position.
The only other candidate who has confirmed that he’s running is former Town councillor Terry Schafer.
Patton said his wish is for the new director to continue where he left off, with the completion of sewer and water infrastructure at Gallagher Lake, and starting a similar project for Sawmill Road.
Being Area C director is a big job that doesn’t pay a lot of money, said Patton. In addition, it’s a job where you have to learn to deal with criticism, which he is no stranger to.
Patton said he loves local government because you’re not encumbered by any party, and you can vote with your own conscience.
His best advice to the new director is: “Vote how you feel is the best for the community and the future of the community.”
