The annual Osoyoos Volunteer Firefighters Oyster Feed attracted another sold-out crowd to the Osoyoos International Curling Club this past Saturday evening. Hundreds of local residents and visitors gathered to eat some oysters and other fine food, have a couple of drinks and dance the night away. The event raises a significant amount of money for various worthy causes in Osoyoos and across the province. Cheques were handed out to numerous organizations on Saturday evening. They included (from left) Brock Johnson on behalf of the Have a Heart Telethon; Town of Osoyoos Director of Financial Services Jim Zakall on behalf of Ronald McDonald House; Cor and Gloria Vermeulen on behalf of the regional MS Society; Eileen Varga on behalf of the BC Cancer Society; Wyatt Thompson on behalf of the Burn Unit at Vancouver General Hospital; Blake Loura, who received a bursary; and Town of Osoyoos Councillor Mike Campol, the founder of Spirit of the Game, which helps provides funds so local children can participate in minor sports and recreational activities. Total funds raised from this year’s event was $18,500. Further donations will be made later in the year. (Photo supplied)
