The official beginning of summer is just over one month away, but the unofficial beginning of summer here in the sunny South Okanagan and most parts of Canada begins this weekend with the Victoria Day holiday weekend.

Millions of Canadians will be travelling abroad by motor vehicle, bus, train and airplane to visit friends and relatives, while many more will be heading to their favourite campground or golf course.

The Victoria Day long weekend is one of the busiest of the year on highways and we urge everyone to slow down, take their time and ensure that they get to their destination safe and sound.

Here at the Osoyoos Times, all of our staff will be enjoying the holiday weekend as well and that means that our office will be closed for business on Monday.

This means that our normal advertising deadlines will be moved up. To book a display advertisement for the May 25 edition, the deadline has been moved up to this Friday, May 20 at 2 p.m.

The normal classified deadline of Tuesday at 2 p.m. will remain in place.

Normal office hours will resume on Tuesday, May 24. We wish everyone a very safe and fun-filled holiday long weekend.
