Osoyoos Secondary School has been saved.
School District 53 trustees voted Thursday to rescind a bylaw passed in April that would have closed Osoyoos Secondary School.
The final vote passed 5-2 with the two Oliver trustees opposing the reopening of the Osoyoos school.
A small group of OSS supporters erupted in cheers after the final vote, though the reaction was somewhat subdued.
Brenda Dorosz, who led parents in opposition to the school closure, shed tears of joy when it was over. She said many Osoyoos parents didn’t make the trip to the school district office because they couldn’t handle more stress.
Only Coun. Carol Youngberg attended from Osoyoos town council.
Although they voted against the bylaw to rescind the April bylaw, neither of the Oliver trustees, Rob Zandee and Rachel Allenbrand, denied the board unanimous consent to deal with all three readings of the bylaw in one meeting.
