Members of the reigning Osoyoos Royalty have been kept extremely busy over the past several weeks attending various pageants and events. Over this summer holiday, Princess Amara Leeson, Queen Teagen Aspell, and I, Princess Ali Hutter, have had the honour of representing Osoyoos in various towns at their pageants and parades.
From July 25-27, our team was in Lytton for their pageant.
The first day, we went to the speech and fashion show. It was amazing to hear about how much the town’s elders mentor the youth.
It was interesting, as well, to learn about the First Nations peoples’ traditional clothing while seeing the group of reigning ambassadors and candidates proudly modeling them.
On Saturday, all the visiting Royalty and Ambassadors were taught a few First Nations’ traditional games. Usually the youngest person of each team is the captain. As I was the youngest on our team, I was captain. After the games, we all went over to the local pool for a pool party.
The pageant was lovely and, of course, hot, because Lytton is said to be Canada’s hottest spot.
On Friday, Aug. 1, we all attended the White Rock Gala.
There was the crowning of the youth ambassadors and the new White Rock team.
The following day we went to a beautiful breakfast with an ocean view and later, to a barbecue on the beach with another mesmerizing view.
On Sunday, Aug. 3, we attended the torchlight parade.
Queen Teagen and I decorated our crowns and the car we rode in with glow sticks.
We continued our travels and on Friday. Aug. 8, were were in attendance for the crowning of the new Penticton Royalty.
The after-pageant reception was very elegant. The next day was the Peach Fest parade. Most of the visiting Royalty and Ambassadors were there fairly early, so, to pass some time, one of the floats blasted some music.
We had our own mini street dance. One of the marching bands joined in. To say that we got many stares and photos would be an understatement.
I think people thought it was a flash mob, but no, it was just the Ambassadors and Royalty being ourselves and having fun.
On Friday, Aug. 15 and Saturday, Aug. 16, we were in Merritt for the British Columbia Ambassadors’ pageant. Friday was the speech night where candidates gave a speech of their choice and another speech about their hometowns.
On Saturday was the crowning of the new British Columbia Ambassadors, after the retiring of the 2013 Ambassadors.
Osoyoos was fortunate last year to have Lauren Sherwood chosen as a British Columbia Ambassador.
Queen Teagen, Princess Amara, and I had the honour of being able to travel with Lauren a few times and we will miss her very much, but we are excited to get to know the 2014 British Columbia Ambassadors.
The Osoyoos Royalty is proud to say that Juliana Martine of Oliver is a member of this new team.
We look forward to spending the rest of our reign with her and we commend her for all her hard work.
