Osoyoos residents braved the rain Sunday to join thousands across the country on the 39th anniversary of the Marathon of Hope.
With a total of 18 runners, local efforts raised $875 for the Terry Fox Foundation.
Ron Gordon has been attending the Terry Fox run for over 10 years now.
“We’ve had a lot of cancer in the family. Grandparents, parents, all smoked, all gone now. There’s still cancer so we hope the research is going to continue and the only way to do that is money and fundraising,” Gordon said. “We have to keep on it.”
He, along with others on the cloudy Sunday morning, was not deterred by the rain.
“It’s a small sacrifice,” Gordon chuckled.
Taking place since 1981, the Terry Fox Foundation has raised over $750 million in that time for cancer research.
