Chamber steps up to help tsunami victims
The Osoyoos Chamber of Commerce usually concerns itself with local businesses.
But after the devastating tsunami in the Indian Ocean last week, which took the lives of over 140,000 people in several different South Asian countries, the chamber is extending its reach to businesses across the world.
We found out Sri Lanka has it's own chamber of commerce, so we're taking money donations for them here in Osoyoos, Camber board member Neil Spivak said.
He said the chamber wants to help Sri Lankans get the infrastructure of their country back up to speed, after the devastating waves wreaked havoc with not only the lives of many Sri Lankans but their businesses as well.
They need to get the infrastructure going again in order to run their businesses, which is what will keep people fed, Spivak said.
Donations can be dropped off at the Chamber of Commerce office, at 7610-85th Street, or mailed at Box 227, V0H 1V0.
It's such an awful event, and we all saw the tragedy last week on TV. But as business people, we know without the infrastructure, the food will run out, so we're trying to do what we can for Sri Lankan businesses, Spivak said.
