With the partnership Natural Resources Canada and Tesla Motors Canada, the Town of Osoyoos has a new electric vehicle charging station which is now up and running on the municipal parking lot at 74th Avenue and 87th Street.

The new station has eight Tesla superchargers and three FLO direct current fast chargers, which are available 24/7. The stations also include charging infrastructure for all vehicle types. The 11 new chargers add to the town’s existing two charging stations at the Gyro Park parking lot.

Unlike regular charging stations, Tesla superchargers take just 30 minutes for a full charge, compared to a charge time of two to six hours at universal charging stations.

Tesla initially proposed the project to build and maintain the station back in 2019, which council approved. The location at the lot on 74th Avenue and 87th Street was chosen as it’s large enough and within walking distance of Main Street.

Currently, B.C. has more than 2,500 public charging stations, and more to be installed to meet the increasing number of people in the province that are electric vehicle owners.

The push for electric vehicles is also a major element in the province’s CleanBC plan to meet emission reduction targets and achieve net zero climate pollution.
