The Town of Osoyoos is launching a pilot project with a new pedestrian area by Main Street and 85th Street.

The section of 85th Street between Main Street and the adjacent lane will be closed starting May 18.

The closure will give a chance for pedestrians in the area to use the space while cars can get into the habit of going around the blocked area.

The area will soon be fully functional with park benches, picnic tables and some landscaping by May 22, and will remain in place until October 2021.

The 85th Street pedestrian area will include spaces for food trucks, shaded picnic areas and landscaping.

The Town of Osoyoos is encouraging people to enjoy this area over the next few months and look out for an upcoming pilot project survey to share any comments and suggestions for the future.

In the Official Community Plan, the idea of this pedestrian area states that “this plaza would create a central meeting place and celebration space for the community. It could be programmed with special elements and accommodate the Farmers Market and other special events.”
