The Osoyoos Fire Department is warning the public about alleged fraudulent phone calls.
Fire chief Ryan McCaskill said an Osoyoos resident called him on Wednesday evening and reported receiving a call from someone identifying as a member of the fire department and asking for a cash donation.
“She thought it was odd and they were very pushy and adamant, saying how much we do for the town,” McCaskill said.

The department never phones people asking for donations and this is the first time McCaskill has heard about someone pretending to be a member of the department and asking for money.
“We wanted it clear that no, that’s not how we do things and it’s not us doing that,” he said.
“If we are looking for donations, we go by businesses in uniform, face to face, so you can see who we are. We don’t ever do anything by the phone asking for cash.”
The incident was also reported to police and the Osoyoos Times has reached out to RCMP for more information.
