The Osoyoos Elks are being sued in small claims court for the elk head mounted within their hall.
The claim was filed Nov. 12 by Shayne Quintal, Anne Barzal and Mike Barzal Jr. and states that the late Mike Barzal Sr. shot an elk years ago and he mounted the head and antlers and displayed it at the Osoyoos Elks Lodge #436.rnThe claimants request the removal of Elk mount from Elk's Lodge #436 by Shayne Quintal as the Osoyoos Elks Land is for sale and building is to be demolished.rnIn the claim, the Barzals request the elk head mount to be returned to rightful owners.rnThey have also put in a claim for $25,000 against the Elks.
The elk mount was not given to the lodge, the claimants added, it was placed there for display purposes only.rnQuintal is a resident of Keremeos and Anne Barzal is an Osoyoos resident.
In a reply filed with the court on Nov. 26, the Elks said the elks head was not a loan, it was a gift from (a) Brother elk, Mike Barzal Sr., who was a former elk and Exalted Ruler.
The elks head has been in the Elks Lodge in Osoyoos since 1974 and the claim is now out of time.rnThe matter is scheduled to be heard in small claims court on April 27.
