Most events planned for the summer of 2020 including the annual Cherry Fiesta are now cancelled after the provincial health officer advised large gatherings would not go ahead in B.C.
“With disappointment and broken hearts we need to inform you that the 2020 Osoyoos Music in the Park concert series has been cancelled. The BC Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, has made it abundantly clear that gatherings of more than 50 people cannot happen this summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Darn, Darn, DARN,” reads a statement from Osoyoos Music in the Park.
“We had an outstanding lineup with musicians based in the Southern Okanagan, in Kelowna, Vancouver, Victoria and Toronto so we almost had a coast-to-coast line up for the first time ever in what would have been our sixth season.”
The 10-show lineup scheduled for the summer joins other annual Osoyoos summer events in cancelling, which Osoyoos Mayor Sue McKortoff announced on EZ Rock Osoyoos Thursday morning.
Osoyoos Festival Society has cancelled the Cherry Fiesta for 2020, Osoyoos Fireworks has cancelled the 25th anniversary celebration on July 1, however, the Osoyoos Market On Main will go ahead, albeit with food only according to McKortoff.
“One good thing is that farmers markets, those are considered essential services and we of course want to our farmers and orchardists, and so there is a farmer’s market being planned. Food items only, no jewellery or anything like that this year, that is not allowed,” McKortoff said.
The piano in the park will be kept in storage as well, McKortoff said.
