The Town of Osoyoos is taking on bylaw services and hiring a supervisor after the end of a contract with a third-party.
The town’s contract with Deleau Enforcement Services expired April 30 and at the May 6 regular meeting a new bylaw supervisor was approved by council.
Brendan Gojevic will start on May 13, while one former staff member from Deleau will fill in for critical operations until that date.
Council had little to say at the meeting other than approval of the staff recommendation to appoint Gojevic sometime prior to his scheduled start date.
“The town is bringing bylaw enforcement operations in-house,” said Janette Van Vianen, manager of corporate services.
One of the responsibilities of the town running bylaw services are uniforms and logos. One of suggestions explored by staff was using the town crest, but it would require an official designation and an application through the Chief Herald Office. The ultimate cost to get a sanctioned town crest were upwards of $3,500 over a 14 month process. The town intended to avoid that cost with Mayor Sue McKortoff calling the process “a little complicated.”
The emblem on bylaw officer patches will instead “be referred to as a logo,” Van Vianen said.
A pale-blue uniform is being worked on by staff and council approved a design on bylaw officer patches brandishing the branding colours of the town.
