The Osoyoos Baptist Church will be hosting a very special Christmas concert featuring a popular band that will be stopping in town as part of a provincial tour.

Christmas Tales will have members of the audience singing along with traditional Christmas carols and be inspired by some new ones, said Ted Osborne, worship leader at Osoyoos Baptist Church.

The concert will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 9 beginning at 7:30 p.m.

“We have been trying to get this group to come to our church for some time now and we’re really glad we managed to sign them up to come for a Christmas concert this year,” said Osborne. “They are a very popular and outstanding group and they will put on a very good show.’

Musician, author and raconteur Justyn Rees will be accompanied by a three-piece band that make up Christmas Tales, said Osborne.

With wit and insight, Rees’ hilarious and delightful retelling of the first Christmas makes for an entertaining evening, he said.

“With wit and insight, Rees draws on his rich and well-travelled history to bring the ancient stories alive,” he said. “You will meet characters re-imagined with British dialects and world accents, including Joseph, the Inn Keeper, Dick the shepherd and many others.”

Russ Rosen and his band have been the feature performers at Vancouver’s Rogers Santa Claus Parade for the past six years and know how to turn a Christmas parade into a wonderful street party, said Osborne.

For the upcoming show in Osoyoos, they will be on their best behavior as they nimbly weave both the festive and reflective Christmas carols throughout an upbeat and positive performance, he said.

“Grab a hold of mom and dad and granny and the kids, load up the truck and head on down to catch Christmas Tales,” he said.

This promises to be a fun night out, he said.

“They put on a very dynamic and very energizing performance that will appeal to the whole family,” said Osborne. “It will be a great way to get into the Christmas spirit a couple of weeks before Christmas.”

Christmas Tales will also be performing in Nelson and Oliver later in December, he said.

“They are performing across B.C. and Alberta as part of a big tour and we’re thrilled we were able to book them about a month ago,” he said.

Admission for the Christmas Tales concert will be $5.
