The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen announced that open burning season closes at midnight on Thursday, April 15. Bylaw No. 2898, 2020 outlines this closure to regulate open burning within the RDOS fire protection areas. These areas include: Anarchist, Kaleden, Naramata, Okanagan Falls, and Willowbrook.
If your property is located outside the areas listed above and you’re unsure about open burning, please check with your local fire department on open burning bylaws in your area.
Campfires are still allowed after April 15, 2021 as per provincial guidelines. The campfire should be one pile of an open fire which burns wood, that does not exceed 0.5 m in height and 0.5 m in width. It should be specifically used for heating, cooking or Indigenous ceremonial purposes.
However, campfires may be restricted at any time by the Fire Chief and fire districts will abide by provincial orders.
