The regional district has decreed that open burning season closes on Friday, April 15.
The bylaw regulates open burning within five protection areas including Anarchist Mountain, Willowbrook, Okanagan Falls, Kaleden and Naramata.
If your property is located outside of these areas, please check with your local authority or the province.
Open burning is not permitted from April 15 to October 15 every year.
To access a burn application visit the RDOS website and select ‘Permits & Licences.’
Campfires are permitted after April 15 subject to a bylaw. A campfire is defined as an open fire that burns wood in one pile that is not to exceed 0.5 metres in height and 0.5 metres in width. This type of fire is specifically used for heating or warmth, or for Indigenous ceremonial purposes. Campfires may be restricted by the fire chief at any time.
