Oliver’s recreation master plan, which will set out a vision for the next 10-20 years, is in its final phase and nearing completion.
Carol Sheridan, director of recreation for the town of Oliver presented an update to town council on July 15, noting that the plan is in its final phase and should be presented in its final form soon.
The most significant highlights, Sheridan noted, is that there is now “an expanded section on how many people participated in the community engagement in round one, as well as the highlights of what was heard.”
She noted further that the vision and the recommendations are now being informed by not just past guiding documents, but also by what was heard in the community engagement.
The importance of collaborating with the Osoyoos Indian Band (OIB), fostering inclusivity, fostering year round recreation, and ensuring there is continued investment in new and expanded facilities for years to come are all highlights Sheridan brought attention to.
The town awarded the tender to develop a Recreation Master plan to Lees and Associates in October 2023. Since then there has been a five phase project to develop this master plan.
Phase five, is now being conducted, which involves the development of the final report using the feedback received during the community engagement.
