Oliver will raise a pride flag at town hall in recognition of International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.

Oliver council agreed to officially recognize May 17, 2024 in solidarity with many who have faced discrimination, by raising the pride flag at town hall.

The world’s first International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia was created in 2003 by Fondation Émergence, a non-profit organization that fights against homophobia and transphobia based in Quebec.

The day is now celebrated in over 100 countries. The specific date commemorates the removal of homosexuality from the World Health Organization’s (WHO’s) list of mental illness on May 17, 1990.
