The Rotary Club of Oliver has awarded Henna Brar as its Southern Okanagan Secondary School (SOSS) “Student of the Month” for June.
As an Oliver Ambassador, Henna has embraced numerous volunteer opportunities that have deepened her commitment to community service, from selling tickets at local events to engaging children during festive celebrations like the Halloween dance. Her passion for giving back began even during her candidacy and has only grown stronger through these experiences.
In addition to Henna’s ambassadorial duties, she co-founded a Bhangra dance class with her cousin, offering bi-weekly sessions for young children that culminated in a successful group performance at a community centre event. Although the classes are currently paused, they continue to choreograph and teach routines to their younger cousins in preparation for future cultural showcases.
Her dedication to service extends into her school life, where she actively supports both peers and staff. Henna frequently helps classmates with their studies and even initiated a Math 10 study group with her cousins to enhance their understanding of the subject.
Beyond academics, Henna eagerly contributes to school events by assisting with setup, providing general support, and scorekeeping at basketball games. These diverse experiences reflect her enthusiasm for leadership, cultural engagement, and educational support, all of which have shaped her into a proactive and community-minded individual.
