Rushed to hospital – Paramedics and firefighters load a patient into the ambulance after he suffered serious leg injuries following a tractor/mower accident in an orchard on Riyegrass Road last week.
Farmer suffers serious injuries
A farmer suffered serious injuries last week after an accident in an orchard off Ryegrass Road near Silver Sage winery.
Oliver Fire Department spokesman Rob Graham said members responded to a call about someone trapped under the mower of a tractor.
While paramedics stabilized the victim, firefighters used various tools, such as air bags, to lift the mower up so the man could be removed.
Once freed, he was rushed to South Okanagan General Hospital, where he was later airlifted to Kelowna General Hospital. He reportedly underwent surgery on his legs.
The man’s identity has not been confirmed, but other media identified him as Amardeep Ghuman from Oliver. A phone call to his residence was not returned.
WorksafeBC told the Chronicle that it is looking into the incident.
Cops called to attempted hanging
The Oliver RCMP responded to Lions Park last week for an attempted hanging.
The Chronicle learned that the Oliver Fire Department was called to assist police with a report that someone was hanging from a tree.
Fire department spokesman Rob Graham confirmed this was the nature of the call.
Sergeant Ken Harrington of the Oliver detachment would not answer questions about the incident, saying there would not be a report.
A witness in Lions Park told the Chronicle that a 30-year-old transient attempted to hang himself from a tree. The witness, an orchard worker, said the man was depressed. But the orchard worker managed to intervene and save the man.
Paramedics reportedly took the distraught victim to the hospital, where he was treated.
