Local men charged with kidnapping
Four Oliver men face serious charges stemming from an alleged assault and attempted abduction on July 2.
Oliver RCMP were dispatched to South Okanagan General Hospital in response to a report of an assault with a weapon and attempted abduction of a 31-year-old Oliver resident.
An investigation resulted in the arrest of four adult males.
“The offence appears to be targeted and risk to the public should be considered as low,” said Sgt. Ken Harrington.
All four males were released on restrictive conditions and are due to appear in provincial court in Penticton on July 30 to answer to charges of assault with a weapon, kidnapping, and mischief under $5,000.
Vehicles paint-balled
Police are investigating a report of mischief at Oliver Car and Truck recently.
Several vehicles in the parking lot at 5668 Highway 97 were hit with paint balls.
Police are asking any witnesses to come forward or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
“Parents with youth who have access to a vehicle and paint ball guns should discuss local concerns with their children,” said Sgt. Ken Harrington.
Thief breaks into house
Oliver RCMP are investigating a residential break-in in the 300 block of Road 20.
Entry had been gained through breaking the window in the front door and disengaging the deadbolt.
The tenant was in the process of moving and the only property that remained were a television and some assorted tools.
Security cameras stolen
The hospital auxiliary thrift shop was the victim of theft and vandalism recently.
Police received a report of mischief at 5928 Kootenay Street, where security cameras were vandalized.
On a previous occasion, two of three outside cameras were stolen. Also damaged were the TELUS telephone wires leading into the building, which the culprit(s) possibly mistook as camera wires, according to police.
Break-in brings police dog
Oliver RCMP, assisted by Osoyoos and Penticton police dog services attended a break and enter in progress at the Oliver flea market on July 2.
An investigation failed to locate any suspects however, the would-be thieves ransacked several kiosks. It was reported by one vendor that a quantity of jewelry was stolen from one kiosk.
Police said two circular saws and a reciprocating saw that were left on the roof were stolen.
