An Oliver RCMP officer was instrumental in apprehending an alleged car thief in Okanagan Falls on April 1.

Seamus Kirby, 28, from Penticton is facing charges of possession of stolen property, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police.

Police nabbed a man following a short pursuit after Oliver RCMP spotted an allegedly stolen vehicle that police were looking for on March 31.

“Officers were unable to stop the vehicle at the time as it was unsafe to do so,” said Const. James Grandy.

After Oliver RCMP reported seeing the stolen vehicle in an alleyway, several plainclothes officers from Penticton arrived and positioned themselves strategically to prevent risk to the public.

At 9.a.m. a man was observed starting the vehicle and driving away. But officers eventually stopped the vehicle and arrested the suspect without incident.

“While our community is in the midst of a public health crisis, our officers are out working tirelessly, continuing our mission of making our streets safe,” Grandy said.
