The RCMP are still investigating the cause of a motor vehicle collision that killed a 76-year-old Oliver man on Sunday.

Sergeant Ryan McLeod from South Okanagan Traffic Services said a limited speed motorcycle (scooter) and a Nissan Murano collided on Highway 97 near Tucelnuit Drive at 1:30 p.m.

The scooter operator was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Police are not identifying the victim. The driver of the Nissan was not injured and remained at the scene.

“Speed and impairment are not being considered as contributing factors to this fatal collision,” said media relations officer Cpl. Mike Halskov of BC Highway Patrol.

South Okanagan Traffic Services is conducting the investigation and is appealing for witnesses to come forward. In particular, video surveillance captured two motorcycles travelling northbound in side-by-side fashion just prior to the collision.

“Police would like to speak with those two motorcycle operators as they may have observations that could aid the investigation,” Halskov said.

Anyone with information regarding this collision, including the two potential witnesses described, are asked to call South Okanagan Traffic Services in Keremeos at 250-499-2250 and cite file 2020-2129.
