The regional district has awarded a contract to upgrade three landfills, including Oliver’s.

Part of the $421,000 contract will be used to replace the scale and scale house at the Oliver landfill for approximately $104,000.

In her report to the board, Manager of Engineering Liisa Bloomfield said the scale house no longer accommodates the needs of the landfill, which requires a larger structure to serve customers.

“The 40-foot scale has seen several repairs in recent years and service technicians are unable to effectively perform further repairs,” Bloomfield said.

She noted the scale read-outs are reporting inconsistent weights, resulting in the over and under charging of customers. This has resulted in several customer complaints, she pointed out.

Bloomfield said a new 60-foot scale is required to report accurate weights and accommodate increased truck and trailer traffic.

Construction of the new infrastructure is expected to be complete by the end of 2019.
