They made it through the Desert Classic high school girls soccer tournament in Osoyoos despite being shorthanded, and now the Southern Okanagan Secondary School girls are set to return to action this afternoon.

The SOSS Hornets will face Osoyoos in high school exhibition action.

The game kicks off at 4 p.m. today on the SOSS soccer pitch.

Last weekend at Osoyoos Secondary School, the Oliver girls came in second in the B Division.

In the round robin, SOSS fell twice to Credo Christian from Langley.

Head coach Andy Marsel had to work with a short bench, as many of the teams players were in the high school musical production at SOSS over the weekend, and unavailable for action.

So, the team pushed on with just 14 players Friday, and suffered through a couple of tough losses.

“Harmen Dhaliwal and Brianna Agostinho stepped up on defence and organized their defensive line to keep a close game against Merritt in our favour, with the Hornets winning  1-0,” offered Lauren Ibaraki, the SOSS soccer coach liaison. “Kalli Marsel was strong in the middle of the field, playing hard in both ends of the field. Selina Mason and Teija Anderson traded time in goal and made some brilliant saves. The girls worked hard together and although the score was not always in our favour, we learned a lot in the four games.”

The SOSS girls are off to Nakusp for a tournament May 1.
