The research is done, the films are booked and now all that is left is to take in some interesting, intriguing, funny, heartfelt and insightful movie experiences from around the world.

Again, I think we have a good mix of films.  Boyhood, one of the more popular independent films from the USA, features the same actor playing the title role from ages 5 to 18.

An American documentary, Finding Vivian Maier, explores the life of a nanny in New York who achieved fame as a street photographer after her death with the discovery of 150,000 of her photographs.

We have two Eastern European films this season.  The multiple award winning Ida from Poland tells of a young woman about to take her vows to be a nun when she discovers something from her family history, spurring her to want to know more.

The Hungarian film, The Notebook, tells the story of two young brothers and their survival instincts in a Second World War environment.

The Northern European film, The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window And Disappeared comes from Sweden. This comedy adventure is based on the world-wide best selling novel of the same title.

The Irish drama Calvary has also been referred to as a black comedy and a whodunit.

Our final movie of the season is Mike Leigh’s, UK film, Mr. Turner.  The film explores the last 25 years in the life of the artist J.M.W. Turner.

Tickets are available at the usual places, Beyond Bliss in Oliver, Imperial Office-Pro in Osoyoos, and Tumbleweed Gallery in Penticton.

Once again a big thank-you to these retailers for their involvement. Payment is only by cheque or cash. If paying with cash, please bring in the exact amount.  If you are unable to purchase your tickets at these places, you can send a cheque along with a self-addressed envelope to me, and I will send them to you or you can pick them up at the box-office on the first evening.

Once again we are presented with some varied and unique big screen experiences. Without you we don’t have a series, so keep the series going by purchasing your tickets at the above retailers.

The global film series at the Oliver Theatre begins on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7:30 with “Boyhood.” It ends on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015 at 7:30 pm with “Mr. Turner.”
