Oliver chooses BDO Canada to audit the town’s finances for the next three years.
The appointment of the company as the town’s external auditor came at the July 25 council meeting, and the resulting contract will extend from 2024-2026.
The contract will cost the town a total of $126,150.
John Kurvink, Oliver’s chief financial officer (CFO), explained to council that the $126,150 is an all-in cost, and if BDO finds anything substantial that needs to be changed at a significant cost they would need approval from the town.
BDO Canada is a member of Binder Dijker Otte (BDO) International which is the fifth-largest accounting network in the world. The company consists of a network of public accounting, tax, consulting and business advisory firms that provide professional services under the name BDO.
A town auditor is responsible for assessing and reporting on the financial operations of the town government. They should provide assurance to the city council and citizens that the financial operations of the town are being conducted properly.
