September has arrived and the days and nights have cooled.
We have traded our shorts for longer pants and are trying not to turn on the heat for a few more weeks during the nights. There is definitely a change in the air.
The Oliver Art Gallery has a change as well. During September we have changed from last month’s vineyard theme to wildlife paintings. Wildlife will adorn the gallery walls in the front room during September. There are paintings of a variety of wildlife from local habitats, to animals from other parts of the world.
Early painted portraits of aristocrats and even ordinary people were often painted with their hunting dogs, horses and animals like deer or even more exotic animals that they shot. For centuries people have loved to display and look at animal images.
Wildlife paintings have been popularized by Canadian artists like Robert Bateman, who I’m sure has one of his famous prints in a lot of peoples’ living rooms.
Well, here is your chance to visit the gallery, view and possibly purchase some of our originals.
As an added bonus September will also be featuring and introducing the art of Jan Crawford. Jan joined our gallery just last month and is known for her paintings of Okanagan scenes and still life.
She resides in both Penticton and North Vancouver, where she has her two studios to produce her wonderful works of art.
Jan is an art teacher in the Vancouver area and plans to soon retire in the South Okanagan, devoting her time to her art.
Her art is displayed in the usual up and coming galleries in BC. We at the Oliver Art Gallery are very fortunate to have Jan join our gallery and enhance our walls with her famous art.
Next month the gallery will be featuring another new theme. October will be filled with paintings of figures of the human form.
Beauty can be expressed in this manner and the Oliver gallery will proudly display its version of beauty next month.
The gallery is located at 6046 Main Street in Oliver and is open Tuesday – Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
